Claus O. Nord, 85, died Monday at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee, after a short illness.
He resided at 429 E. Spruce St., Cherokee, and had lived in Cherokee since 1944. Prior to that he farmed in Diamond Township and Minnesota.
He was born Feb. 10, 1889, in Sweden. He married Esther Johnson Dec. 4, 1918 in Marcus. Mr. Nord worked at the Cherokee County Courthouse for a number of years and was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cherokee.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Kenneth, Storm Lake and Donald, Omaha, daughters, Mrs. Morris (Lillian) Peterson, Cherokee, and Mrs. R.B. (Mildred) Palmer, Memphis, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Esther, Sweden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Delores in 1964; a son, Melvin in 1963; a grandson, Claus Nord, in 1968, five sisters, and two brothers.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Hurty officiating. A family prayer service will be at 1:30 p.m. at the church.
Boothby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
