Esther N. Nord, 89, died Sunday, June 5, in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She had been a resident of Aurelia the past three years, and prior to this was a longtime resident of Cherokee.
Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Dr. Delmar Carlson will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at the church at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. The Boothby Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Esther Johnson was born Nov. 8, 1898 in Sweden, coming to the United States in 1907. On Dec. 4, 1919, she was married to Claus Nord at Marcus. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was active in the various church organizations.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Nord and Kenneth Nord, both of Storm Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Lillian) Peterson, Aurelia, and Mrs. R. B. (Mildred) Palmer, Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Elvera Hann, Waterloo, and Ethel Miller, Dubuque; 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Claus on Sept. 2, 1974, one son Melvin, a daughter Dolores Smith, and a grandson Claus LeRoy Nord.
