Dorothea Mae McManus, 85, of Cherokee, died Sunday, December 5, 1999 in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee, following a brief illness. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. Rev. Timothy Schott will officiate. Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, is in charge of arrangements. Her body was cremated.
She was born July 11, 1914 in Walker, Minnesota to James A. and Margaret Marie (Strahmann) Smith. She attended schools in Minnesota. On September 12, 1931, she married Roy McManus in Vermillion, South Dakota.
Dorothea was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Wescott Post #2253 Auxiliary and enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include: her husband; two sons, James D. McManus and his wife Maxine of Waynesboro, Ga., and Ronald G. McManus of Albuquerque, N. M.; a sister, Irene Hardin of Toledo, Ohio; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters.
