Otto Olson, 80, died at 3 a.m. Saturday at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a six-month illness. He had made his home at 816 Birch Street and had lived in Cherokee the past 45 years.

Born on Dec 10, 1890 in Plymouth County, he married Hattie Hoeppner on May 24, 1913 in Plymouth County. He farmed until 1940 and worked as a road maintenance man retiring in 1970. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors are his wife; seven son, Leonard E, William, and Francis, all of Cherokee; Merlyn of Des Moines, Virgil of Minneapolis, Harold of Storm Lake and Donald of Phoenix, Ariz.; five daughters, Mrs. George (Anita) Nelson of Cherokee, Mrs. Marlin (Luella) Cipperley of Holstein, Mrs. Eldon (Evelyn) Scott of Pocahontas, Mrs. Robert (Darleen) Milbrodt of Sioux City and Mrs. Tom (Margaret) Patris of San Diego, Calif.; 33 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one brother, Carl Olson of Cherokee.

Preceding him in death were his parents, five sisters, three brothers and four daughters.
Services will be announced later by Boothby Funeral Home which in charge of arrangements.
