Mrs. J.W. “Jack” Grapenthen, 79, of Aurelia, died suddenly Saturday, February 19th in Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital at Cherokee.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aurelia. The Rev. David Oswald officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Grapenthen, the former Lillie Ruebsam was born on August 30, 1903 in Buena Vista County. She married Jack Grapenthen on March 14, 1923 in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Afton Township, Cherokee County.

They spent their married life in Aurelia where she operated a beauty shop for many years.

Survivors include her husband and one sister, Mrs. Walter Matzdorff of Aurelia.
