Joan E. Werthman, 67, of Cherokee, died suddenly at her home on Monday, June 21, 1999, of an apparent heart attack.
services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee. Rev. Timothy Schott will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by an 8:00 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Daughters of America, also at the funeral home.
She was born October 31, 1931 in Early, Iowa to Vernon and Harriett (Huston) Rowley. She was later adopted by Osroe C. Fuchs, following his marriage to Harriett. Joan graduated from Wilson High School in 1949, in Cherokee. She married Bob Werthman November 21, 1950 in Cherokee. They farmed near Cherokee for many years.
She worked at Harlan Moen's Law Office from 1980 - 1982 and at Miller, Miller, Miller P.C. law office from 1982 - 1998. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed her family, collecting Precious Moments figurines, reading, crafts, playing cards, and working on the computer.
Survivors include her husband; 4 daughters, Susan Streit and her husband Bob of Ida Grove, Iowa; Sandra Crawford of Boone, Iowa; Mary Kay Full and her husband Tim of Forest Lake, Minnesota; Ann Ries and her husband, Jeff, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 2 sons, Ted Werthman and his wife Brenda of Marcus and Tony Werthman and his wife Darla of Cherokee; 13 grandchildren, Ryan, Nick, Crystal, Mitchell, Melanie, Michelle, Renee, Jon, Cody, AJ, Jeremy, Kyle and Nikki; her mother, Harriet Fuchs, of Cherokee; step-sisters Margaret Mundt of Valparaiso, Ind., Ruth Pigott of Kearney, Nebr., Cathie Flanagan, of Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her father, her step-father, a son-in-law (Bryce Crawford) and a brother-in-law (Dale Werthman).
