MELVIN W. WITTMAACK (1932 - 1999)

Melvin W. Wittmaack was born at Denison, Iowa, September 8, 1932, the son of William Christian and Christina Hadenfeld Wittmaack. In infancy, he wa received into God's Kingdom of Grace through Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed in his Christian Faith there as a teenager. Melvin was raised in Denison receiving his elementary education at Zion Lutheran School before being graduated from Denison High School with the Class of 1950. Following high school he was employed at the Thrifty Market in Denison.

On March 4, 1956, Melvin was united in marriage with Norma Luitjens at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, Iowa. Their union was blessed with four children, Melvyn, Danny, Krista and Robert. They made their home in Denison before moving to Snyder, Nebraska where he owned and operated Superb Meats until retiring and moving to Lincoln, NE. While residing in Snyder, Melvin was a member of the Village Board and Lions Club. One of his great joys in life was raising and showing miniature horses.

Melvin died at his home in Lincoln, NE, Sunday, January 17, 1999 with his loving family at his side. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 66 years, 4 months and 9 days.

He was a member of the Eastridge Presbyterian Church in Lincoln.

Melvin was preceded in death by his father, one son, Danny, his father-in-law, Louis Luitjens and a brother-in-law, Arlen Luitjens.

Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife of over 42 years; three children, Melvyn & Tricia Wittmaack of Lincoln; Krista Wittmaack of sandy, UT; and Robert Wittmaack of Virginia Beach, VA; three grandchildren, JOrdan & Jason Mendez of Sandy, UT and Alysia Wittmaack of Lincoln; his mother, Christine Wittmaack of Denison; two sisters, Lucille and Keith Waldron of Schleswig, IA, and Dejloris & Glen Meyer of Westside, IA; mother-in-law, Loyal Luitjens of Denison; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 1999 at the pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison with Dr. John Loudon, pastor of Eastridge Presbyterian Church in Lincoln officiating. Music for the service as provided by guitarist and vocalist, Steve Neumann, singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Im But a Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home". Honorary bearers were Donald Holst, Richard Janning, Brent and Randy Waldron and Kim Skadeland. Casket bearers include Dick, Frank, Brian Meyer, Tom Schleis, Russell Sedlacek, Gordon Cose and Kevin Christie. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Pfannebeck Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
