Edwin J. Willbrandt, 91, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Sunday, September 1, 1996 at 9:15 a.m. in the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ray Krueger will officiate and burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Visitation will be all day today at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening.
Mr. Willbrandt was born July 8, 1905 in Cherokee to George and Ethel (Burch) Willbrandt. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee in 1926. On October 5, 1935, he married Ann Paulson at Blair, Nebraska. . He was a self-employed contractor for many years and had also worked as a housing inspector for the F.H.A. He had served as Postmaster of the Cherokee Post Office for several years. he was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, a 50 year member of Speculative Lodge #307 A.F. and A.M., was a former member of the Cherokee Symphony Association, a longtime Cherokee Country CLub member, and an avid golfer.
Survivors include one brother George L. "Bill" Willbrandt and his wife Lois, Cherokee; one sister Marjorie Glassmaker, Cherokee; three sister-in-law Barbara Willbrandt, Seneca, South Carolina; Irene and her husband Paul Goeb, Cherokee; and Jean Gustafson, Tampa, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann, on November 5, 1992; a brother Dale; and a brother Lawrence in infancy.
