Mrs. E. J. Willbrandt, 80, of Cherokee, died Nov. 5 in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. The Rev. Ray Kreuger will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia. Carnation Chapter, Order of Eastern Star will have services immediately following the services at the church Monday. The Boothby Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Sept 7, 1912 at Balfour, North Dakota to Bernhard and Etta Robbins Paulson. She graduated from Aurelia High School in 1929. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, now University of Northern Iowa graduating in 1931. She taught in Alvord and George, Iowa. She was married to Edwin J. Willbrandt on Oct. 5, 1935 at Blair, Neb. During World War II she taught school at Grand Meadow and substitute taught in Cherokee Schools.
She had lived in Cherokee since 1945, prior to this she had lived in Lake View, Waterloo, Council Bluffs, Des Moines and Omaha. She was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, active in the church circles, had taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, served on the Board of Trustees and served as a Deaconess. She was a member of the Tone Circle, the Cherokee Community Concert Series, the Cherokee Symphony Association, having served as board member, a member of the the Cherokee Garden Club, the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, was a life time member of the American Red Cross, was a member of the Cherokee Country Club, was active in the Iowa Womens Golf Association, holding various local offices and had also served as a State Board member of IWGA. She was a 50 year member of Past Matron of Carnation Chapter, #165, Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Leslie Paulson and one sister Vivian Paulson.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin, three sisters, Irene Goeb and her husband Paul, Cherokee; Mrs. Gean Gustafson, Tampa, Fla.; Mrs. Gladys Nicks, Tampa, Fla; brother-in-law and sister-in-laws including Lowell and Lois Willbrandt, Cherokee; Dale Willbrandt and his wife Barbara, Seneca, South Carolina; Marjorie Glassmaker, Cherokee, also many nephews and nieces.
