Sherry L. Wheeler, 57, died Thursday morning at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, Cherokee, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Church of Christ, Cherokee. The Rev. Gregg Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. A family prayer service will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at the church. Visitation will be today from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. The family will be present at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Sherry was born June 19, 1935 in Iowa City to Carl and Lucille (Logue) Wheeler. She attended schools in Cherokee and graduated from Wilson High School in 1953. She later graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. She taught school in Lake View, Hull, Paulina and Edina, Minn. She was an elementary teacher in the Cherokee School system for the past 30 years. She was a member of the Pilot Rock chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the ISEA, NEA and CEA. She was also a member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee.
Survivors include a sister, Roberta Hueser and her husband, William (Bill), of George, IA; two brothers, Charlton Wheeler, and his wife Delores; and Larry and his wife Linda, both of Cherokee; nieces and nephews, including, Kyle and Jon Hueser, Ann and Kristin Wheeler, Kathy Dilts, Theresa Perrin, Jean Villarreal, and Laurie Wheeler.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jan 25, 1968 and her mother, Oct. 11, 1987.
