Mrs. Leota Pelton Wadsley, 89, Storm Lake, formerly of Cherokee, died Saturday, May 23 at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake following a brief illness.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. from the Boothby Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Kruger officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home today.
She was born Nov. 14, 1902 in Cherokee County to Martin and Hattie Dolph Sleezer. She married John "Jack" Pelton on Aug. 8, 1924 at Waterloo. He died March 11, 1965. She married Neil Wadsley on July 28, 1989.
She had worked for the Cherokee Mental Health Institute and Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in the dietary departments for several years. She also worked for Cherokee schools. She was a clerk in various grocery stores in Cherokee.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee and the Rebekah Lodge. She had been a resident of Storm Lake the past 18 years.
She was preceded in death by parents, two brothers, George and William Sleezer, one sister, Mrs. Myrtie Tilton.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews including: Mrs. Belle Parker, Storm Lake; Wayne Sleezer, Cherokee; Mrs. Paul (Marjorie) Hoxie, Cherokee; and Dale Sleezer, Aurelia.
