Mrs. Lester (Grace) Whitehouse, 91, died Monday, Jan. 9, in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a long illness. She had lived in Cherokee since 1962, and prior to this on a farm in Pilot Township. She was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County.

Service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. J. Donald Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Thursday.

Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge will have services Wednesday evening at 7:30 at the Boothby Funeral Home, Cherokee.

Grace Champion was born April 8, 1897, in Cherokee to S.B. and Electa Champion. She received her education in the Cherokee schools. For a number of years she served as bookkeeper for Sackse Bunn Implement and later was assistant to Dr. A. J. Tanner

One June 17, 1929, she was married to Lester H. Whitehouse at Spencer. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the World War I Barracks Auxiliary, the Rebekah Lodge, Carnation Chapter No. 165, O.E.S., and Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed music and art work having received a number of awards for her oil painting and chalk work.

She is survived by one son, James Lester Whitehouse of Northville, Mich.; two grand-daughters; two great-grandsons; also one niece and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on June 28, 1985, also three brothers, Howard, Harry and Glenn Champion, and one sister Gladys Ridenour.
