Harry J. Williams, 77, died Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness. His home was 560 East Cedar and he had been a lifelong resident of Cherokee.

He was born June 12, 1895 in Cherokee. He married Edna Farm, March 23, 1921 in Cherokee.

Williams operated a restaurant in Cherokee from 1938 to 1947 and was manager of Iowa State Liquor Store from 1954 until his retirement in 1967. He was affiliated with Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was also a 50 year member of American Legion Treptow Post 230, a member of Mexican Border veterans and World War I Barracks.

He is survived by his wife, Edna, one son, Robert Williams, Nashville City, Calif., five grandchildren and one great-grandson and one sister, Mrs. Helen Fogleman, Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Boothby Funeral Home with Robert Hurty of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery.
