JASON HAROLD "Jay" YAGGY (1908 - 2003)

Jay Yaggy, 94, of Cherokee died Saturday, July 26, 2003 in Country Side Estates.

Services are Wednesday at 11 am at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Cherokee. Rev Ray Kruger will officiate. His body will be cremated following the service and burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, at a later date. Visitation was Tuesday from 10 am to 9 pm with the family present from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee.

Jason Harold Yaggy was born August 6, 1908 in Bradford, PA. to Jacob and Mabel Yaggy. He graduated from North High School in Minneapolis in 1925 and from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. in 1930 with a B.A. in Math. Jay received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1933 and began work for the Commercial Credit Union. He married Faye Bales on March 2, 1935 in Eldora. She preceded him in death on July 8, 1999.

Jay bought and opened the Coast to Coast Store in Cherokee in 1943. He sold the store and retired in 1973. He served on the Cherokee City Council and was active in Rotary Club while he owned the store. He had lifetime honorary memberships in the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club. Jan and Faye were members of the Memorial Presbyterian Church where Jay served as an Elder. He served as chairman for the Cherokee Red Cross and was on the financial committee for Prairie Gold Area Scout Council.

Jay enjoyed working with his hands on crafts with shells, natural woods, jewelry and woodworking. He and Faye enjoyed their golf and spent many winters in the South so they could continue playing. They were life members of the Cherokee Country Club.

Jay is survived by his 3 children, Janne Deischl of Houston, Texas; Clark Yaggy and his wife Marilyn of Marietta, Georgia; David Yaggy of Lewisville, Texas; his "adopted son" Sergio Bermudes, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; grandchildren, Scott Deischl and his wife Kim; Molly Deischl Prim and her husband John; Anne Yaggy Bishop, and her husband Dan; Patrick Yaggy; great grandchildren, Joshua and Paul Prim.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents, step-father (Lee Riggs) two brothers (Mahlon and Lael).
