LOLA VAN WESTEN (1929 - 1997)

Mrs. Russel (Lola) Van Western, 68, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 2, 1997 at 3:40 pm in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a seven month illness.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 7, at 10:30 am from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor David Renfro will officiate and burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at rural Aurelia, Ioaw. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 am at the church on Monday. Visitation will be all day on Saturday and Sunday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present Sunday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Van Westen was born on March 20, 1929 at Aurelia to Leo and Linda (Stief) Kolpin. She attended Aurelia schools and graduated from the Estherville, Iowa high school in 1946. She was married to Russel Van Westen on May 3, 1953 at Cherokee. She was a longtime resident of Cherokee and had worked at the F.W. Woolworth Store, J.C. Penney's Store, Hawley Allison's, Cherokee Drapery, Randall's Supervalue, Bomgaars and the Kmart Store in Cherokee retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Dorcas Circle, had been a confirmation teacher and helped her husband with the church custodial work. She enjoyed ceramics and sewing.

She is survived by her husband, Russel; her mother Linda Kolpin, Cherokee; three brothers: Marvin Kolpin, Storm Lake, Iowa; Leland Kolpin and his wife Bernie, Estherville; and Wilford Kolpin and his wife Donna, Grand Junction, Colorado; two sisters: Arleen Newton, Austin, Texas; and Fern and her husband Leroy Lair, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her father; and a brother, Richard Kolpin.
