Vernice T. (France) Van Duzer, 81, of Denver, Colo., died on May 31, 2003.

The eldest daughter of Millicent (Derby) France and Ray B. France of Cherokee, she was a 1939 graduate of Wilson High School. Vernice had a long and distinguished career as an educator. She was an English teacher and Assistant principal for Instruction at North High School in Denver, and later as a principal at Henry Junior High and Thomas Jefferson High Schools in Denver. She retired from her position in 1979. Vernie was married to W.H. "Bill" Van Duzer, former deputy city attorney for the city and county of Denver.

She is survived by her sister, Marquerite Ellen Andersen, brother-in-law Tom Andersen, first cousin Phyllis Elliott of Cherokee, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989 and her parents.

Memorial services were held June 6 in Denver and a Committal Service was held June 8 at Oakwood Cemetery, Casey, Iowa.
