Ray B. France, 95, Cherokee, died Monday, Oct 21, 1991 at 3:35 pm in the Hilltop Care Center in Cherokee following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct 25, at 10:30 am from the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. Rev Ray Kruger will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. The Boothby Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

He was born Aug. 9, 1896 at Moville to S.R. and Alice Deming France. He graduated from Iowa State University at Ames. He was married to Millicent Derby on March 16, 1921 at Kingsley. After graduation from Ames, he traveled for the Wallace's Farmer magazine before going into business for himself. He owned and operated various agri-business enterprises in the Cherokee area.

He had lived in Cherokee since 1925. He was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, Speculative Lodge #307 A.F. & A.M., was a veteran of World War I, serving in the U.S. Army, was a member of the Rotary Club, the CHerokee Chamber of Commerce, the Tau Epsilon Kappa Fraternity at Ames, was a promoter and leader in the development of the 4-H programs and the Cherokee County Fair, and had been active in many other community endeavors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Millicent on Aug. 28, 1990 and one brother, Bert France.

He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Mrs. Vernice Van Duzer of Denver, Colo., and Marguerite and Thomas Andersen of Lillian, Ala.; two grandchildren, Mrs. Cynthia Stanton of Petaluma, Califo., and Chris Anderson of Tulsa, Okla.; and two great grandchildren, Dean Stanton and Renee Anderson.
