Boyd, F. Cowan

Boyd, F. Cowan, son of, Grace and Walter Cowan, was born on a farm in the Washta vicinity, May 8, 1907 and died in'- Cherokee, la., Oct. 30, 1963, at the age of 56 years, five months and 22 days.

He attended rural school through the eighth grade and graduated from Washta High School in 1923. For two years he attended Iowa State Teachers College then taught in the high school at Braddyville, la. He was united in marriage to Vivian Holcomb on June 5, 1935. They were the parents of two daughters. He was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church where he had served on the Board of Trustees. He had served as U. S. postal clerk, for the past 32 years and was secretary to the United Federation of Postal Clerks here.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Myrna) Goodwin of Topeka, Kan., and Miss Marlys Cowan, Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Nancy and Dennis Goodwin. A brother, Donald Cowan, and a sister Mrs. Felton (Doris) Lingle, both of Holstein, also survive. Others surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Harriet Cowan and a brother-n-law, Lyle Kissinger, both of Washta.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Mrs. Lyle (Irma) Kissinger and two brothers, Joseph and Harold Cowan. Funeral services were held Nov. 2 from St. Paul's Methodist Church with Rev. Victor V. Schuldt officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Boothby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
