Ervie J. Fox, the son of Alfred and Polly Fox, was born at Arlington, Ia., on Aug 7, 1882 and died at Gresham, Ore., July 30, 1968 at the age of 85 years 11 months and 23 days.
He spent his early years around Arlington before coming to Quimby, Ia., where on May 26, 1902 he was married to Bertha Parker. They were the parents of three sons and one daughter.
Most of his married life was spent at Quimby and Meriden where they operated a telephone exchange for 10 years and then in Cherokee where for a time they operated a grocery store.
Mrs. Fox preceded him in death on Dec 28, 1943, then on Sept 9, 1945 he was married to Mrs. Laura Stewart who preceded him in death, Dec 23, 1967.
About five years ago he moved to Oregon to make his home with a son.
He was a member of First Church of Christ at Cherokee.
Surviving are three sons Alby of Gresham, Ore., Clyde of Aurelia, Harold of Quimby; and a daughter, Mrs. Laura Anderson, Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren. A step mother, five half sisters and one half brother also survive as do three step-daughters, and one step-son, Mrs. Wesley Day, Mrs. Leora Hahn, Mrs. Ethel Hahn and Fred Stewart, all of Cherokee.
His wives, his parents, two sisters, a brother and a half-sister preceded him in death. Funeral services were Aug 5 from Church of Christ, Cherokee with Phil Gardner officiating. Burial was in Quimby cemetery under the direction of Boothby Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, namely James Gates, Bill Fox, Robert Fox, Ronald Fox, Robert Hahn and Michael Galvin.
