Lowell Troy "Lucky" Essick, 66, of Cherokee, died March 24 at 3:15 pm in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee following a one year illness.
Funeral services will be held March 28 at 10:30 a.m. from the Boothby Funeral Home. Rev. Alfred McCoy will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Visitation will be from noon on Sat until service time on Mon.
He was born Oct 19, 1927 at Sioux Rapids, to Worth F. and Gladys (Crane) Essick. He was married to Dorothy Dwyer on Feb 4, 1952 in Cherokee. He had worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation as a Project Inspector for 40 years, retiring in 1989. His home was at 411 W Cherry St. He had lived in Cherokee most of his life. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, one son and two daughters: Steve Essick and his wife Maria of Cherokee, Marilyn Wall and her husband Keith of Sioux City, Barbara Sorokowski and her husband Stanley of Sioux City. Four grandchildren, Kelsey Essick, Ira, Everett, and Barton Wall.
