Mrs. Ruth A. Ehlers,92, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Cherokee died in the Hilltop Care Center at Spirit Lake, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 pm from the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Mr. Gregg Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 pm at the funeral home on Saturday.
She was born on Jan 6, 1901 at Cherokee, to Hugh and Mittie Slaughter Fowler. She graduated from Cherokee High School in 1919. She was married to Herman Ehlers on March 4, 1926 at Cherokee. She and her husband owned and operated Ehlers Grocery & Locker in Cherokee for many years. She had been a resident of the Arnolds Park area since 1984 and prior to this had lived at Rockwell City, for 8 years and before this was a longtime Cherokee resident. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cherokee and was a former member of the Art Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on March 26, 1983, one brother Adrian Fowler; and one sister Verna Wright.
She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Joyce Ann & Gaylord Peters, Arnolds Park; two grandchildren, Kristine Peters, Milford; Lori Janssen and her husband Garry, Rochester, Minn; two great-grandchildren.
