Weekly Cherokean Democrat February 6, 1889

A. Mrs. Spears, who has been engaged in canvassing the city for the sale of a book for some time, died very suddenly at her house in the addition yesterday morning. The lady was out canvassing Monday and apparently in good health. Her husband is in some other part of the country canvassing and a telegram sent to where her people were supposed to reside revealed the fact that they had left there some three year ago. The services of neither of the undertakers have been secured as we go to press, and the reporter could find no one who seemed to know much about the case. It is said the lady’s death was caused by a rush of blood to the head, while there is a suspicious rumor that her death was caused by something else. Some of the neighbors, we understand, have taken charge of the remains and will see that everything is properly looked after.
