DIED

Haynes-In Cherokee Oct 4, 1889, Mrs. Mary E. Haynes, aged 71 years, 4 months, 5 days.

The deceased was born in Cornish, N.H., in 1818. Her childhood was passed there and when grown to womanhood she married David Cummings of the same city. Seven years later her husband died, leaving her with one child, now Mrs. C. Corbett of this city. After this event she moved to Acton, Mass., and in a few years was married to Albert Haynes. They came to Cherokee, Iowa, in 1857, forming part of the Milford Emigration company, and have resided here since that time, enduring the many hardships and privations commons to the early pioneers. In the spring of 1888, Mrs. Haynes lost her husband a second time. For two years previous to her death she had been an invalid, and at times a great sufferer. She contracted a severe cold and died very suddenly from inflammation of the lungs. Of seven brothers and sisters, one only survives her, Mr. H.O. Lothrop of Boston. Her gentle disposition had won for her many friends, who will sadly miss her. They funeral occurred on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the residence of her daughter, the Rev. Mr. Breach officiating. Her remains were followed to their last resting place by the white haired pioneer survivors, whose lives had been so intimately connected with her own.
