A Sudden Death

Mrs. Nelson Smith died very suddenly at her home in this city on Monday the 24th inst, at 1 o’clock p.m. She had been in poor health for two years but on the day of her death had prepared dinner and was about as usual. About 1 o’clock she began to feel ill and sat down in a chair, where she expired before anything could be done for her. The cause of her death was heart failure, caused by enlargement of the heart. The news of her death was a sad blow to the family.

Mrs. Smith’s maiden name was Frances Brown. She was born in Canada Oct. 27, 1826, and in 1851 was married to Nelson Smith in County Hastings, Ontario. They moved to Cherokee 1872. The deceased was a very estimable woman and a consistent christian, being a life-long member of the M.E. church. She leaves a husband, six sons and other relatives to mourn. The funeral will occur at 1:30 today and the M.E. church. Four of her sons are here-Elgin and Milo of Sioux Falls, Ossie of Des Moines and Thurber. Another is in Canada and another somewhere in Kansas.
