S.S. GEDDES DIES AT

AGE OF NINETY-ONE

A Resident of Iowa Since the Early
Fifties—Here in 1876.

Another of the older pioneer resi-
dents of Cherokee county has passed
to the great beyond. Samuel S. Geddes
a resident of Cherokee county
since 1876 died at his home in this
city, Monday evening, April 5, 1920 at
the ripe old age of 91 years. Funeral
services were held at the home on
Roosevelt avenue at 3 o'clock yesterday
afternoon conducted by Rev. E.
C. McDade,and interment was in Oak
Hill cemetery.
Mr. Geddes was born November 29,
1829, near Mt Vernon, Ohio, and came
west as far as Des Moines, Ia., in-the
early fifties. He was united in marriage
with Miss Elizabeth Nagle
August 7,1854 at Taylorsville, Iowa,
and to this union, eight children were
born, three daughters and five sons,
two of whom, died in infancy.
Mr. Geddes came to western Iowa in
the spring of 1876 and settled on a
farm four miles southeast of Washta,
where he lived until the spring of
1910, at which time he retired from
his farm and moved to Cherokee, making
his home here until the time of
his death. Up to a short time previous
to his death, he was quite active,
able to be about attending to his affairs
retaining his faculties in a remarkable
degree for one of his age.
The deceased is survived by his
widow and five children, Irwin R. Geddes
of Fulun, Alberta, Canada; Lettie
Belle Geddes, Cherokee; Corda E. Pey-
ton, Omaha; Geo. E. Geddes, Sioux
City; Arthur J. Geddes, Cherokee. One
son, Eddie S. Geddes, of Ponca, Neb,
preceded his father to the great beyond
May 30, 1902.
