Funeral of Mrs.
S. S. Geddes

The funeral of Mrs. S. S. Geddes.
whose death occurred Tuesday, was
held this morning from the Appleyard
& Wallace chapel, being conducted
by Dr. J. J. Bushnell, of the
Methodist church.
Mrs. Geddes, whose maiden name
was Elizabeth Nagel was born
July 4, 1838, and was 89 at the
time of her death. She had been ill
for some time as a result of advanced
age. When a child she
came with her parents down the
Ohio by boat and up the Mississippi
to Keokuk. From there they continued
to Des Moines, which then
had but three or four stores and
simply a fort.
She was united in marriage to
Samuel S. Geddes Aug. 7, 1854,
and they entered the hotel business
just north of Des Moines. They
moved to Ida county in 1876, locating
near Washta. In 1910 they
left the farm and located in Cherokee.
Here Mr. Geddes died April
5, 1920.
To them were born eight children,
two of whom died in infancy.
Eddie S. Geddes passed away May
30, 1922, and Cordelia Geddes Peyton,
in February, 1926. The four
remaining are: Miss Lettie Belle
Geddes of Devils Lake, N. D.;
Irvin Reed Geddes of Cherokee;
George E. of Sioux City, and
Arthur of Cherokee.
Mrs. Geddes was a member of
the local Methodist church.
