IDA GROVE, Iowa — Elsie Irene Carstensen, 84, of Ida Grove died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. today at Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Mrs. Carstensen was born Oct. 26. 1915, in Hanover Township, Schleswig, the daughter of Peter W. and Hulda (Brockman) Petersen. She was baptized on Feb. 8, 1916, at her parents home, and was later confirmed in 1928 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.

She married Freddie Schroeder on Dec. 19, 1935. He died on March 12, 1944.

On Feb. 25, 1949, she married Friedrich Carstensen at Schleswig.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.

She enjoyed playing cards, baking, and painting pillow cases and towels.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne Schroeder and his wife Carolyn of Ida Grove and Jens Carstensen of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Janice and David Nemitz of Denison, Iowa; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Emil Petersen and his wife Lillie of Schleswig, and Jurgen Petersen of Denison; a sister-in-law, Inge Carstensen of Ida Grove; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by both husbands and a daughter, Elaine.
