MARCUS, Iowa — Thelma I. Nielsen, 79, of Marcus died of lymphoma Saturday, July 8, 2000, at her daughter's residence in Vancouver, Wash.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, with the Rev. James Gruber officiating. Burial will be in Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Earnest and Roethler Funeral Home of Marcus.

Mrs. Nielsen was born Feb. 22, 1921, in rural Marcus, the daughter of Ivan and Bessie (Wirt) Addy. She was raised in Marcus and graduated from Marcus High School. She then attended Morningside College in Sioux City. She married Charles W. Nielsen June 30, 1943. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of Marcus Hardware and other various businesses. Her husband died in 1974.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and Chuck, both of Irvine, Calif.; two daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Rex Cowan of Dallas and Susan and Ray Luokkala of Vancouver; two grandchildren, Alison and John Cowan; and a brother and his wife, Lloyd and Winifred Addy of Long Beach, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
