AURELIA, Iowa — Katherine Whitney, 91, of Aurelia died Monday, June 26, 2000, at her residence.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church in Aurelia, with the Rev. Bruce Rapp officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Wharton-Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.

Mrs. Whitney was born Jan. 18, 1909, in Sioux Falls, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Smith) Bierden. She graduated from St. Mary's School in Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1926, and later attended a business course at Mount St. Mary's Academy in Cherokee, Iowa. She was employed as a secretary in Cherokee for several years.

She married William E. Whitney of Aurelia, on June 15, 1933, in Ainsworth, Neb. Her husband died Feb. 26, 1974.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, where she held offices in the Circles and Women's Fellowship. She was a member of Sunset Knoll Auxiliary, where she served as the pianist. She also enjoyed her bridge club.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, William and Joan of Radnor, Penn. and Robert and Linda of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Donna Whitney of Los Altos Hill, Calif.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Vadopalas, Katie Luers, Suzanne Smedt and Andrew, Thomas and Samantha Whitney; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Gerry Whitney of Storm Lake.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas; a granddaughter, Andrea Whitney; a niece; and a former daughter-in-law, Barbara Whitney.

A memorial fund has been established.
