AURELIA, Iowa — Sylvia C. Peterson, 84, of Aurelia died Monday, April 10, 2000, at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with the Rev. Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Wharton-Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.

Mrs. Peterson was born Dec. 6, 1915, near Aurelia, the daughter of John and Lena Caroline (Hoffmeier) Geuther. She graduated from Aurelia High School in 1934.

She married John C. Peterson on Aug. 30, 1937, in Fairmont, Minn. The couple farmed near Aurelia until moving into Aurelia in 1977.

She was employed as a Cherokee County Homemaker and Health Aid.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Bible Study, Lamplighters and quilters. She was a former Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader and a member of Maple Valley Friendship Club. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking and playing bridge.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Mary Jane Littell of Covina, Calif., Donna Whitney of Los Altos Hills, Calif. and Linda and her husband, Max Andersen, of Vermillion, S.D.; six grandchildren, Holly Brunick, Dennis Andersen, Dwight Littell, Suzanne Whitney-Smedt, Kent Littell and Thomas Whitney; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Marle and Glenn Riemers of Schaller, Iowa; and a family friend, James Serviss of Aurelia.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Albert Geuther; four sisters, Ethel Grunig, Mayme Otto, Celia Bell and Clara Geuther and a son-in-law, Thomas Whitney.
