30 April 1998CHEROKEE, Iowa — Ted L.M. Martin, 72, of Cherokee died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at the Country Side Estates following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. A.E. McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Quimby Cemetery, Quimby, Iowa, at a later date. The body was donated to science.
Mr. Martin was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Quimby, the son of Aaron D. and Rosa (Rector) Martin. Following graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy for three and a half years during World War II.
He married Billie M. Hartliep on July 21, 1947, in Walnut Creek, Calif. He owned a foor covering store in California before moving back to Cherokee. He was employed with Schmidt's Furniture. He opened Martin Interior's from 1960 until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the Cherokee Country Club and enjoyed golf.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Randi A. Martin of Elkins Park, Penn., Ricki L. Martin Fowler of Green Valley, Ariz. and Rene E. Martin and her husband Dr. Jerry Suls of Iowa City, Iowa; a son and his wife, Robin D. and Patrice of Cherokee; seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Jewel Pearse, Ruby Crimmings and Mary Schramm, all of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Homer.
