12 March 1998QUIMBY, Iowa — Robert E. Johnson, 84, of Quimby died Monday, March 9, 1998, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa, of an apparent heart attack.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. John Scherb officiating. Burial will be in Quimby Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Lyle W. Barnes Post 398.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Johnson was born April 9, 1913, in Rock Township, Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Mary (Hanson) Johnson. He graduated from Quimby High School in 1930 and attended business school in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II stationed in England.
He married Betty Robson on Dec. 27, 1954, in Cherokee. He had farmed and worked for Simonsen's for many years, retiring in 1983. He had resided in Quimby for 32 years, prior to this, he lived on a farm in Rock Township.
He was a member of Quimby United Methodist Church and the American Legion Lyle W. Barnes Post 398 of Quimby.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters and their husbands, Lou Ann and Clark Christensen of Iowa City, Iowa, Jolene and Mike Scacci of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Kristi and Perry Schlinz of Ocala, Fla. and Debra and Mike Flom of North St. Paul, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Megan and Mackenzie Scacci, Kara and Erin Christensen, Ashley, Matthew and Courtney Schlinz and Abigail Flom; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Johnson.
