November 5, 1916 - November 17, 1973Ethel V. Kruse (Johnson), Daughter of Sam and Annie Johnson was born in Cherokee, County, November 5, 1916. She was baptized on July 22, 1917 at the Swedish Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. She was confirmed and received her first Bible on April 13, 1930 at the Swedish Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, Iowa. She graduated from the Sulphur Springs High School near Storm Lake, Iowa in 1935. She attended the American Institue of Business in Des Moines, Iowa and received a secretarial course certification in January of 1939. On September 10, 1939 she was united in marriage to Raymond H. Kruse of Aurelia, Iowa. The marriage vows were spoken at the close of the Sunday morning workship service in the Methodist Church in Aurelia, Iowa. Her membership was transferred from the Swedish Trinity Luthern Church in Alta, IA to the Methodist Church in Aurelia, IA where she remained very faithful through the years. She was faithful in her service as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, President of Women's Society of Christian Service and a charter member of the newly organized United Methodist Women.
The past three years, physical disabilities limited her activities, but her courage and determination to overcome her handicaps, as well as her alertness of mind were an inspriation to all who knew her. She was faithful in her daily devotions. She enjoyed reading, wrote some poetry and gathered meaningful quotations. One of the quotations in her notebook charactarised her attitude toward life. "It isn't the days that count in your life. It's what you do with them"
Ethel passed from this life Saturday evening, November 17th, 1973 at the age of 57. Survivors include: Her husband, Raymond H. Kruse; Her children, Thomas of Fort Dodge; Janice, (Mrs. Ronald Cuthrell) of Cherokee; Donald of Gowrie, Iowa; and Roger of Lake Andes, South Dakota; Grandchildren; her father Sam Johnson who resides at Sunset Knoll in Aurelia, IA; a sister, Mrs. Vivian Rebhuhn of Aurelia, IA; three brothers, Arthur E. Johnson of Galva, IA, Marvin Johnson of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Kenneth Johnson of Simi, California.
Ethel was preceeded in death by her Mother in 1968.
