Mrs. Emma Bennett Burke was born in Lycoming Co., Pa., June 26,1848 & died at her home in Quimby, Aug. 28,1934 at the age of 86 yrs, 2 mths & 2 days. She was united in marriage to Samuel H. Burke Oct. 9, 1867, at Sonestown,Pa.
The next year they moved to Lucas Co, Iowa, where they resided until 1883 when they again moved to Cherokee Co where she has since resided with the exception of two years spent in Canada.
Six children were born to this union, all of whom survive her. Mr. Burke departed this life 17 years ago.
For many years she was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She believed in the good old firm religion. She always enjoyed the fine Christian fellowship, was always glad to have her pastor hold communion service with her in her home, for it had been a number of years since she was able to attend church services. She remembered her Christ in this way & because she loved Jesus as her Savior. Blessed are the saints who die in the Lord.
Mrs. Burke leaves to mourn her departure, her six children, E.E. Burke, Leavenworth, KS., Mrs. M.B. Smith, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. T.L. Pelton, Cherokee, G. Franklin Burke, William J. Burke, Charles A. Burke, all of Saskatchewan, Canada. She also leaves 26 Grandchildren, & 15 G-Grandchildren.
She was a very kind mother , always so proud of her children. She also was a kind neighbor.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church in Quimby Fridaay afternoon at 3 0' clock by her Pastor, Rev. F.C. Preul. Music was by a quartet, Mrs. Thos. Burcham, Mrs. Ray Rollins, Mrs. John Pinkerton, Mrs. Clarence Pinkerton. Burial was beside her husband in Quimby Cemetery.
