Mrs. C. H. Mongan died at the family home in Diamond township Saturday afternoon at three o’clock after an illness of the past six weeks with liver and gall trouble. Her condition became serious Wednesday of last week and she gradually grew weaker until her death which came as a severe shock to the relatives and friends.
Carrie Hillery, daughter of Albian and Barbara Hillery, was born October 17, 1885 at Maxwell, Iowa, and died at Aurelia, Iowa, June 23, 1917, aged 33 years, 8 months and 6 days.
When a young girl she moved with her parents to Kansas where her father died. At the age of eight years she came with her mother to Pierson, Iowa, where they resided two years when her mother was united in marriage to Henry Stieneke of this place. She has since that time made her home in this vicinity. On Feb. 22, 1905, she was united in marriage to C. H. Mongan, who together with five small children mourn the untimely death of a faithful wife and loving mother. She also leaves to mourn her death her mother, Mrs. Henry Stieneke of Aurelia, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon at one o’clock and at the Congregational church in Aurelia at two o’clock. Burial was made in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Mary Swartzendrover and two daughters of Clarion, and Mrs. and Mrs. Frank Williams of Worthington, Minnesota. (Aurelia Sentinel, 6-28-1917)
