MAXINE B. GRAUER
(February 15, 1916 - May 2, 2009)

MAXINE B. GRAUER, 93, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday morning, May 2, 2009 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 5th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cleghorn Christian Church. Pastor Bob Blair will officiate. Burial will be in the Meriden Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Tuesday. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The family requests that memorials be made to the Cleghorn Christian Church or St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Maxine was born February 15, 1916 in Cherokee County, Iowa to Albert and Rose (Resene) Kinzel. She graduated from Cleghorn High School in 1933. She married Paul D. Grauer on December 29, 1936 at Marcus, Iowa. Maxine worked for Klatt’s Hardware for a short time. She and her husband operated Paul’s Appliance in Cherokee for many years and also operated a local Laundromat. Maxine had lived in the Cherokee County area all her life. She was a member of the Cleghorn Christian Church and was affiliated with St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Church Circle. Maxine was an avid reader and enjoyed embroidery work and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul on December 29, 1982 and a brother and sister-in-law Rev. LaVern and Verda Kinzel.

She is survived by a daughter, Karin Shirley and her husband Donald of Boone, Iowa; two grandchildren; Renee Shirley of Boone, Iowa; Kevin Shirley and his wife Lori of Boone, Iowa; one great grandson Nicholas Shirley of Boone, Iowa; one nephew Warren Kinzel and his wife Joyce of Montrose, Colorado.
