STEWART G. WILSON
(October 25, 1916 - April 30, 2009)

U.S. Veteran STEWART G. WILSON, 92, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Careage Hills in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 4th, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia, Iowa. Pastor Bruce Rapp will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa. There will be military rites at the cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Monday. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Stewart was born October 25, 1916 at Washta, Iowa to James R. and Nettie (Archer) Wilson. He graduated from Washta High school in 1935. Stewart served in the U. S. Army from 1942 until 1945, being discharged as a Tech Sergeant. He was married to Phyllis Hamilton in 1941 at Bartlett, Nebraska. He was later married to Jeanette Ludwig on May 20, 1985 at Las Vegas, Nevada. Stewart worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for 30 years. He served as Fire Chief for the Hospital from 1961 until 1981 and was the Assistant Business Manager at the time of his retirement on March 12, 1981. He had lived in Cherokee most of his life and resided in Fullerton, California for a short time. Stewart enjoyed playing golf and shot a Hole-in-One on July 26, 1969 at the Aurelia Golf Course.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mildred Holler and a niece Judy Holler.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; two sons: Howard Ludwig and his wife Doris of Mishawaka, Indiana; Tim Ludwig and his wife Brenda of Larrabee, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; Melony Storm and her partner Dewey Gravenish; Nick Ludwig, Cassie Ludwig, Dennis Ludwig, Brent Beedle, Stacy & Rob York; 10 great grandchildren: Alex Hammond, Trinity Storm, Robbie York, Hannah Ludwig, Hayle Harrell, Cody Ludwig, Nelson York, Alex Harrell, Alyssa Hare, Kameron Hare; a niece Carmen Richter and her husband Richard of Cherokee, Iowa and their family, Paul Richter and family; Jennifer Richter and family; a brother-in-law Keith Sangwin and his wife Elizabeth of Long Beach, Mississippi.
