JAMES WEINS

James Weins, 58, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 from cancer due to exposure from agent orange. His wife and children were by his side.

Memorial services will be held Friday, April 24, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. V.F.W. L.A. Wescott Post # 2253 will conduct military graveside honors. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

Jim was born September 1, 1950 in Cherokee, Iowa to Nick and Lillian (Boysen) Weins. He attended high school in Sutherland, Iowa, graduating in 1968. Jim served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1968-1972. He was very proud of his military service. Jim had 2 tours of Vietnam and later served with Air America for 1 year. He married Linda Fessler and they later divorced. On November 6, 1998 he married Jane Monroe in Cherokee, Iowa. Jim had worked numerous jobs throughout the years and was known for being a handyman. Jim was proud of building his own home and also his classic cars.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; son, Benjamin Weins, of Cherokee, Iowa; step-daughter, Amanda Monroe Rubendall, and her husband, Chris, of Cherokee, Iowa; sisters, Ruth Hanson, and her husband, Palmer; Joan Anderson, and her husband, Kenny; Judy Wagner, all of Cherokee, Iowa; Dorothy Westphal, Patty Anderson, and her husband, Dennis; of Larrabee, Iowa; Alice Mitchke, and her husband, Roger, of Meriden, Iowa; Rosemary Osterquist, and her husband, Jim, of Altoona, Iowa; brother, Robert Weins, and his wife, Tess, of Belle Plaine, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Lifetime childhood friends, Ladd Huffman, of Calumet, Iowa and Margaret Larsen, of Sutherland, Iowa; a special family friend, Ramona Weins, of Fort Dodge, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew (Leon Hanson) brother in law (Charles Westphal) and niece (Sonja Anderson).
