James Nicholas Schueder

James Nicholas Schueder, 83, was received by the Lord on April 18, 2009, with his wife and children at his bedside as he made the journey.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 21, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary by the Knights of Columbus at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Jim was born on April 2, 1926 to Raymond and Laura (Daley) Schueder in Gaza, Iowa. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1945. On September 20, 1947, he married the love of his life, Delores Bern, in Sutherland, Iowa. They farmed for many years and lived in Florida for 11 years. Because of poor health, they moved back to Cherokee, Iowa in 1998 to be with his family. Jim was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus in which he was a 4th degree Knight.

Jim enjoyed farming and remodeling and was always busy doing odd jobs, working with his hands and helping his family. Jim took pride doing his yard work. During his early years, he enjoyed all the neighborhood card games that he and Delores belonged to. He enjoyed dancing and listening to polka music, and having coffee with his friends. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim had many major illnesses in his life and with the Grace of God always bounced back.

Jim had a joy in his smile, a gentle strength in his touch, and devotion unlike any other. He had wisdom for living and no end to his giving. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Delores of 61 ½ years; his children, Kathleen Zimmerman and her husband, Max, of Altoona, IA; Rosemary Cronin and her husband, Robert, of LeMars, IA; Richard Schueder and Len Nicholas of Waukee, IA; Daniel Schueder and his wife, Charlotte, of Cherokee, IA; his canine companion Toby; nine grandchildren, Matthew Zimmerman and Noy Loucks of Carlisle, IA; Mark Zimmerman and his wife, Haley, of Brumley, MO; Laura Miller and her husband, Matthew, of Eau Claire, WI; Carrie Brownmiller and her husband, Todd, of LeMars, IA; Thomas Cronin of Chicago, IL; Katie Mangan and her husband, Tim, of Waukee, IA; Mary Olhausen and her husband, Nick, of Sioux City, IA; Derek Schueder and his wife, Jody, of Laramie, WY; Erica Schueder and her fiancée, Nathan DeWitt, of Sioux City, IA; great grandchildren, Lilly Zimmerman, Olivia Miller, Cole and Drake Brownmiller, Haleigh and Hannah Mangan, Lauren Olhausen, and several nieces and nephews; a sister, Julie Meyer and her husband, Darrell; sisters-in-law, Jean Schueder and Velma Phillips.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers, Jack and Joe Schueder; a sister-in-law, Eileen Schueder.
