EVELYN M. SASSMAN
(May 24, 1927 - April 22, 2009)

EVELYN M. SASSMAN, 81, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Countryside Estates in Cherokee, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 24th, at 1 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Mr. Joey Dyslin will officiate. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery at Marathon, Iowa. Visitation will be on Thursday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Evelyn was born May 24, 1927 at Elk Point, SD to Floyd and Fern (Loving) Dyslin. Evelyn attended schools in Larrabee, Iowa and Jefferson, SD graduating in 1945. She married Floyd Vernon Sassman November 7, 1945 at Jefferson, SD. During their married life they lived in Storm Lake, Alta, rural Rembrandt and the last 10 years in Cherokee, Iowa. Evelyn was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, sewing, walking and wintering in New Mexico with her husband. She was a member of the First Church of Christ and taught Sunday school and belonged to a Women’s Circle at church.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Floyd V. Sassman in 1995; a brother Harold Dyslin and a sister Doris Deaton.

She is survived by 3 sons and 1 daughter; Dennis (Connie) Sassman of Orange City, IA, Lonnie (Linda) Sassman of Gillette, WY, Roger Sassman of Cherokee, IA and Joni (Patrick) McDonnell of Eagan, MN, 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 6 brothers and sisters; Virgil “Bud” (Cleone) Dyslin of Storm Lake; Donna McKissock of St. Paul, MN; Donald (Darlene) Dyslin of W. St. Paul, MN,;Larry (Elaine) Dyslin of Denver, CO, Joey (Kathy) Dyslin of Cherokee and Dianne Dyslin of Dallas, TX and many nieces and nephews.
