(January 2, 1948 - April 6, 2009)

Joani Catherine (Ziegenbusch) Bohm died at Sanford Foundation Hospice Cottage on April 6, 2009, at age 61 after a seven-year battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Cherokee, Iowa, on January 2, 1948, the daughter of James and Shirley Ziegenbusch. After finishing high school in Cherokee in 1966 she attended the University of Iowa, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 1974. She began a career of supervisory and management positions with Blue Cross of North Dakota from 1974 through 1979. Joani married Bob Bohm in 1975. Their only child, a son, Justin, was born in September, 1980. Joani was passionate about volunteering as an assistant to teach learning-disabled children in an elementary school. She later accepted a paid position in that capacity. Her greatest joy in life was her son, and her devotion to her family. Joani was known for her indomitable spirit; unyielding in her love of family and friends, and unconquerable in her battle with a disease which ultimately took her body but could do nothing to affect the unwavering love and affection that she brought to everyone she knew.

She is survived by her husband, Bob, of thirty-four years and their son, Justin of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Joani’s parents, Jim and Shirley Ziegenbusch of Marshalltown, Iowa survive her. She is also survived by her brother, John, and his wife Sue of Ames, Iowa and their daughter Amy (husband Larry and children Katherine and Hayden) Webber of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and daughter Betsy Ziegenbusch of Everett, Washington. Joani is also survived by nephews, nieces, and many devoted good friends.
