RUBY A. WESTER
(February 14, 1930 - April 3, 2009)

RUBY A. WESTER, 79, of rural Cleghorn, Iowa passed away Friday afternoon, April 3, 2009 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 8th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Meriden, Iowa. Pastor Clint Hogrefe and Pastor Ryan Petersen will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Ruby was born on February 14, 1930 at Herndon, Kansas to David and Anna (Holmdahl) Cedar. She moved from Kansas to Iowa with her family at the age of 9 and lived in rural Meriden until her graduation from Meriden High School in 1948. She then attended the Swedish School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minn. for 3 years, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She had worked at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee for a short time before her marriage to Vernon Wester on September 2, 1952 at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church and has lived in rural Cleghorn ever since. Ruby was the nurse at the Meriden-Cleghorn school for 30 years, was an RN at Wilson Foods and later Continental Deli for several years until retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon on October 4, 2006, three brothers Maynard, Leonard and Richard Cedar, sister-in-law Alice Cedar and a brother-in-law Burton Lundell.

She is survived by two daughters and one son: Joanne Petersen and her husband Gene of Cleghorn, Iowa; Verdene Salem and her husband Dan of Carroll, Iowa; Eric Wester and his wife Sara of Cleghorn, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Ryan (Heather) Petersen; Jeffrey Petersen; Lindsey (Eric) McGill; Lauren Petersen; Brent, Aaron, Kelley and Kristen Salem; Kyle, Andrea and Christopher Wester; 2 great grandchildren: Noel Petersen and Vivianne McGill; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Arlene Cedar of Larrabee, Iowa; Eleanor Lundell of Paullina, Iowa; Roy (Elsie) Wester of Paullina, Iowa; Dale (Pat) Wester of Cherokee, Iowa; Lorraine (Bob) Mortenson of Cherokee, Iowa; Merle (Eleda) Wester of Cherokee, Iowa; Evelyn (Karl) Kludas of Aurelia, Iowa; Jeanette (Larry) Johnson of Meriden, Iowa; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
