Myrtle Ware

Myrtle Ware, 99, of Cherokee, Iowa died Sunday March 29, 2009 in the LeMars Good Samaritan Village, LeMars, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.greenwoodfuneral.com. Memorials are requested for St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Cherokee Public Library.

Myrtle was born December 12, 1909 in Remsen, Iowa, to August and Henrietta (Harms) Witt. She was educated in Remsen, graduating from Remsen High School. She attended Morningside College for 2 years and received her teaching certificate. On May 19, 1939 she married Elmer Ware at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Myrtle taught in the Marcus and Meriden school system for 40 years and finished her career in Cherokee, retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and a Sunshine Member of Charity Circle.

Survivors include daughters, Janet Smith, and her husband, Deloss, of Ralston, Nebraska; Pam McClaren, and her husband, Bob, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Judy Wilson, and her husband, Kenneth, of Granger, Iowa; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer (August 9, 1984), 2 sisters, Vivian Witt (2008), and Mabelle Juhl (2005); a brother, Leonard “Bud) Witt (1993).
