Cornelius “Connie” O’Hearn

Connie O’Hearn, 74, of Cherokee, Iowa, died Monday March 2, 2009 at his home following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday March 5, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., followed by a rosary by the Knights of Columbus. Connie was born on June 15, 1934 in Ellsworth, Minnesota to Dr. William and Margaret (Crowley) O’Hearn. He attended school in Worthington, Minnesota and graduated in 1952. After his graduation he attended St. Thomas College in the Twin Cities for two years. Connie then entered the United States Army. Following his military service, he entered South Dakota State University where received his pharmacy degree. Connie co-owned and operated McWilliam’s Drug Store in Cherokee, Iowa for many years. On August 21, 1976 he married Sandra Yakabowsky (Kennedy) in Cherokee, Iowa. Connie remained very active in his pharmacy career even after retirement. He worked at the M.H.I. on Monday’s and filled in for numerous pharmacies in Cherokee and Storm Lake.

Connie enjoyed many things in life including photography, boxer dogs, traveling, and especially visiting with people. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club, numerous professional pharmacy organizations, and was also involved in community theater in his earlier days.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; two sons, Chris Kennedy of Spirit Lake, IA; Kevin Kennedy and his wife, Rosa, and their son Dominic, of Omaha, NE; two sisters, Mary Erickson and her husband, Bob, of Minnetonka, MN; Margaret O’Hearn of Praire Lake, MN; three sisters-in-law, Joy O’Hearn of Fargo, ND; Julie Huser and her husband, Ken, of Sioux City, IA; Patricia Verschoor and her husband, Richard, of Henderson, NV; his mother-in-law, Anna Yakabowsky of Sioux City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. William and Margaret O’Hearn; a brother, Dr. Jerome O’Hearn.
