Louis Gravenish, 97, of Cherokee, Iowa, died Tuesday March 3, 2009 at the Cherokee Villa Nursing Home in Cherokee, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday March 7, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Louie was born on August 15, 1911 near Maryhill in Cherokee County, Iowa to Theodore and Pauline (Weis) Gravenish. He attended high school at Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in Cherokee, Iowa and graduated in 1930. Louie farmed in the Cherokee area for many years. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, dancing, going to casinos, and attending dog races.

He is survived by a brother, William Gravenish of Modesto, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Arnold, Cyril “Hap”, and Bertin; one sister, Viola Schmidt.
