HILMA W. ARTZ
(August 9, 1916 - March 7, 2009)

HILMA W. ARTZ, 92, of rural Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday evening, March 7, 2009 in the Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 12th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee. The Rev. Magrey deVega will officiate. Burial will be in the Kingsley Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Hilma was born August 9, 1916 at Kingsley, Iowa to James & Gola (Weathers) Pratt. She graduated from Kingsley High School in 1934. She attended Pasadena College in California. She was married to Ralph O. Artz on September 30, 1937 at Kingsley, Iowa. She drove school bus and was a farmer’s wife. Her home was on a farm in Afton Township where she had lived the past 42 years, prior to this in the Kingsley area. They retired in 1981. Following their retirement she and her husband delivered Winnebago Motor Homes nationwide. Hilma was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and she enjoyed quilting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph on December 14, 1997.

She is survived by five children: Paul Artz and his wife Demarious of Logan, Utah; Claudia Page of Mineral, Washington; Lynda Risner of Temecula, California; Gayle Lower and her husband Bob of Kirkland, Washington; Roger Artz of Lawson, Missouri; 6 grandchildren: Terri Murphy, Ginny and Josie Brown, Tim and Amy Artz, Chad Lower; one sister and one brother: Grace Babcock of Moville, Iowa; Ben Pratt and his wife Ruth of Kingsley, Iowa.
