LUCILLE RYDEN
(August 31, 1919 - January 21, 2009)

LUCILLE RYDEN, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Careage Hills in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jim Steen will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Saturday. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Lucille was born August 31, 1919. in Cherokee County, Iowa, to Joel and Hedvig (Erlandson) Benson. She attended school in Cherokee, graduating from Wilson High School in 1937. On June 6, 1948, she was married to Arthur Ryden at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a charter and life long member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Lucille cherished 60 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Art. Her life centered around Art, her four children and 10 grandchildren. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and traveling to her children’s homes.

Art and Lucille enjoyed traveling on several cruises together. Lucille was a member of the Lutheran Church Women’s Circle. She also enjoyed raising a beautiful flower garden. Her rose garden, first established by her father, was her pride and joy. She loved making flower arrangements from this garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Bernice Phipps and cousins Beulah Freed and Raymond Erlandson.

She is survived by her husband Arthur, one son and three daughters: Gary Ryden and his wife Janet of Spokane, Washington; Jolene Niemeyer and her husband Roger of Perry, Iowa; Linda Erickson and her husband John of Crystal Lake, Illinois; JoAnn Wilson and her husband Russ of Ames, Iowa; 10 grandchildren: Kristin and Andrea Niemeyer, Jennifer and Ken Erickson, Paul Ryden, Karen Provance, Carolyn Cook, Laura, Rachel and Anne Wilson; one great granddaughter Audrey Provance; a sister Martha Anderson of Cherokee, Iowa; a nephew Dennis Anderson and his wife Patty of Larrabee, Iowa, and a cousin Opal Freed of Paullina, Iowa.
