CECIL M. PANNELL
(June 11, 1931 - January 21, 2009)

CECIL M. PANNELL, 77, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday evening, January 21, 2009 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 27th, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia, Iowa. Pastor Bruce Rapp will officiate. It was Cecil’s wishes to be cremated and there will be no visitation. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee is in charge of the arrangements.

Cecil was born on June 11, 1931 near Homer, Nebraska to Leo & Carol (Churchill) Hickmon. She attended schools in Homer and Winnebago, Nebraska and graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1947. She was married to Francis Hair in 1950 and was later married to Duane M. Pannell on October 4, 1959 at Jackson, Nebraska. She had owned and operated Cec’s Bookkeeping and Tax Service in Aurelia, Iowa for many years and prior to that had worked at Jolly Time Popcorn in Sioux City and Hope’s Fashion Farm in Cherokee. Cecil was a member of the First Congregation Church in Aurelia. She loved to play scrabble.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, and a sister Patricia.

She is survived by her five children: Leslie Hair and his wife Mary Ann of Wakefield, Nebraska; Diana Rowden of Ft Smith, Arkansas; Beverly Mabe and her husband Terry of Nixa, Missouri; Wanda Pannell and her special friend Joe Kohn of Cherokee, Iowa; Maurice Pannell and his wife Dapheney of Tulsa, Oklahoma; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters: Carol Haga and Mary Cooley of Lincoln, Nebraska; Kenneth Hickmon and his wife Ellen of Stafford, Texas; Kay Darnell and her husband Dale of Spencer, Iowa; Dennis Hickmon of Junction City, Kansas; Denise Nurse and her husband Dennis of Hartley, Iowa; Jean Sherman and her fiancé Bob of Sioux City, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews.
