HELGA A. LUNDQUIST, 93, of rural Washta and former long time Meriden area resident, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009 at Countryside Estates in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22nd, at 1:30 p.m. at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m. at the Church on Thursday. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Helga was born April 24, 1915 in rural Quimby, Iowa to Ernest and Hannah (Nelson) Swanson. She attended country school in the Cleghorn area. She was married to Raymond N. Lundquist on July 1, 1936 at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church. She had lived on a farm near Washta since 1993, prior to this on a farm north of Meriden. Helga entered Countryside Estates in February of 2003. She was a member of the Meriden Evangelical Free Church, the Women’s Missionary Society and the White Cross.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray on August 11, 1993, one brother Garness Swanson, three sisters Martha Larson, Ethel Morrow and Dorothy Sullivan.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter: James Lundquist and his wife Rosie of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Loren Lundquist and his wife Lynn of Custer, South Dakota; Doreen Todd and her husband Marlan of Washta, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law Vera Swanson of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Marjorie Lundquist of Meriden, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
