STEVEN F. COLVERT, 63, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, November 2, 2008 at his home in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 5th, at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Richard Arndt will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. at the church on Wednesday. There will be military rites at the cemetery by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Steve was born on February 12, 1945 in Washta, Iowa to Leslie & Marjorie (Witcombe) Colvert. He attended Washta Schools until the family moved to Cherokee. He graduated from Cherokee Washtington High School in 1964. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army from 1965 until 1967. He was married to Donna Seel on July 19, 1969 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. He had been a resident of Cherokee most of his life. He delivered newspapers as a young boy and worked at Swanson’s Grocery Store while in high school. He worked for Bob Hatch Masonry, Cherokee Sanitary Services for 10 years and at the HyVee Distribution Center in Cherokee for 29 years retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, and a member of the L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. Steve enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping and time spent with his family, especially his grandson Steven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 daughters Kimberly Renee in 1973 and Melissa Sue in 1978; 3 sisters Kay Pemble, Donna Christian, Rose Colvert at birth; 3 brothers George, Jerry and Donald Colvert.

He is survived by his wife Donna, one daughter and one son: Chris Kling and her husband Geoff of Sioux City, Iowa; Matthew Steven Colvert of Cherokee, Iowa; one grandson Steven Thomas Kling and another grandson due in February 2009; 1 sister and 2 brothers: Mary Jo Christian and her husband Daniel of Las Vegas, Nevada; Joe Colvert and his wife Laurel of Billings, Montana; James Colvert and his wife Gina of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; his mother-in-law Evelyn Seel of Cherokee, Iowa; a brother-in-law Jerry Pemble of Sac City, Iowa; a sister-in-law: Rosella Matejeck of Breckenridge, Minnesota; 2 brothers-in-law: Dennis Seel and his wife Debbie of Laverne, California; Doug Seel of Cherokee, Iowa; a sister-in-law Darlene Norell and her husband Ed of LeMars, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
